Description
This gourd can be eaten like a squash! Produces 30-48″ gourds with a light green smooth skin and pale yellow flesh. To eat, harvest them when they’re closer to 6″ long and 1″ diameter and use like a summer squash – steamed, sauteed, or baked! They can also be dried as a ornamental piece like other gourds.
Gourd – Cucuzzi Italian Edible – Lagenaria siceraria
Soil & Water: Provide rich soil. Water young plants moderately, then increase their supply of water after the gourds set.
Planting & Growing: Start seeds indoors 3 weeks before last frost or direct sow once danger of frost has passed. Support vines with a fence or sturdy trellis, and protect young plants using row covers.
