Why Care About Pollinators?

Without pollinators, we wouldn’t be able to easily grow fruits, veggies, and even herbs in our gardens. Unfortunately, the increased use of chemical pesticides has reduced populations of natural pollinators. In areas with row crops or commercial operations, you have farmers spraying large amounts of chemicals on hundreds of thousands of acres. In the city, you have homeowners spraying chemicals on the grass and destroying wildflowers and “weeds” like dandelions, which are actually an important food source in the early spring for pollinators! Throw in some hard weather conditions that happen sometimes…and you have a recipe for disaster.

Planting more pollinator friendly crops in your garden is the way to go – to give them a valuable food source AND attract them into your garden where they can do the most benefit and enjoyment for you as well. 🙂
