Description
This open pollinated native from North America produces purple flowers with reddish-orange cones that attract bees and butterflies. The seeds even attract songbirds (i.e., finches) later! Has various purposes, including ornamental, medicinal, and dye making uses. (This is one of the types of echinacea that has historically been used medicinally.)

Soil & Water: Requires full sun and moderate water, but it is adaptable to various types of soil.
Planting & Growing: Plant in the fall or spring, with no scarification required! (Cold treatment is required for germination, however.) Loosen the top two inches of soil and mix seed with 10 parts vermiculite. Broadcast this mix over the area to be planted. Compress soil and cover lightly with compost or straw.
