Description
Onion – Tokyo White Bunching – Allium fistulosum
Biennial, often considered a warm-season annual. This Japanese variety produces scallion/bunching onions with white stalks and green leaves. Also known by other names like scallions, green onions, and spring onions. Tender texture and mild flavor, closer to that of the leek. Good container gardening too. Also useful for succession planting.
Soil & Water: Onions prefer loose, fertile, friable, well-drained soil with plenty of added organic matter. Their shallow root system is sensitive to fluctuations in water. Mulch to conserve water and control weeds.
Planting & Growing: Sow seed in spring. PR, thrip, and smut resistant.
Harvesting & Storage: Harvest bunching onions as soon as they’re large enough to eat.
