Description

Gooseneck is a perennial flowering plant prized for its distinctive and elegant flower spikes like resemble…a goose neck! It is native to East Asia and is commonly grown in gardens for its ornamental appeal. Commonly used in borders, cottage gardens, and naturalized areas. Its spreading habit makes it useful for ground cover but can be aggressive in some settings, so make sure you’re planting it in a place where you want a reliable flower to bloom again and again. Typically flowers from mid to late summer, often continuing into early autumn.

Root crowns are taken from the crown, or the central growing point, of a mature plant. These cuttings include a portion of the stem and the base where new shoots emerge, allowing for effective propagation.

NOTE: Sorry, but gooseneck is only available for shipping to US customers (excluding Hawaii).

Gooseneck Flower (Gooseneck Loosestrife) Lysimachia clethroides

Planting: Cuttings should be planted in spring or fall. Begin by loosening the soil and mixing in compost to provide nutrients. Insert the crown cutting so that the growing point sits just below the soil surface, then water thoroughly. Keep the soil consistently moist, but avoid waterlogging, until the cutting is well established.

Soil & Growing Conditions: This plant prefers moist, well-drained soil that is fertile and rich in organic matter. It can tolerate a variety of soil types, from sandy to clay, as long as drainage is adequate. Ideally, the soil pH should be slightly acidic to neutral, around 6.0 to 7.0. They thrive in full sun to partial shade and benefit from some afternoon shade in hotter areas to prevent leaf scorch.

Usage: Gooseneck flowers typically bloom from mid to late summer. For fresh floral arrangements, cut flower spikes when the flowers are fully open. The flowers can also be dried for long-lasting decoration. Note that the plant is grown for ornamental purposes only and is not used for consumption.
