Description

Make your own salsa verde with these 2-4 oz tomatillos, which have a tangy flavor. The husks split once the tomatillo is ready to harvest. They usually produce about 1lb of tomatillos per a plant. They can also be canned like tomatoes.

Tomatillo – Toma Verde – Physalis ixocarpa

Soil & Water: Tomatillos prefer fertile soil rich in organic matter with a pH between 5.5-7.0.

Planting & Growing: Sow seeds in flats 6-8 weeks before the last frost and thin to 2″ apart after the first true leaves appear. Before transplanting after the last frost, harden off the plants by placing them outdoors for a few hours to start, increasing the amount of time each day until they are accustomed to a full day of sunlight. Provide full sun after they’re transplanted, except in very hot climates.

Harvesting & Storage: Harvest when individual husks begin to split, or the fruit fills out the husk!
