Description
The sweetest pepper available – like candy! Delightful fresh or fried, this pepper is also a sweet non-bell pepper when ripe. An Italian heirloom preserved by the Nardello family. Red when ripe, these 6″-8″ peppers have shiny, wrinkled skins.
Pepper – Nardello – Capsicum annuum
Soil & Water: Prefers fertile, well-drained soil with ample calcium and phosphorus. Moderate water needs.
Planting & Growing: Start indoors 8 weeks before last frost. Direct seeding not recommended. Stake to keep fruit off the ground. It is ok to have the top leaves touching slightly which will help shade the fruit and roots when the summer temperatures rise. Mulch the plants to keep soil cooler than the air temperature and reduce evaporation.
Harvesting & Storage: Harvest first fruits early to encourage continued production. Cut (don’t pull) fruit from stems. Can harvest green but fruits become sweeter as they ripen red.
