This is a mix of 10 elderberry cuttings total, including:

  • Elderberry Scotia Cuttings (qty 2) – Produces smaller, but very sweet berries that are great for making pies, jams, and jellies! This variety is popular in Canada.
  • Elderberry Ranch Cuttings (qty 2) – This compact, drought-tolerant variety of elderberry is a favorite commercial choice. It produces berries on shorter (~5′ tall) plants, but it tolerates temperature swings and hard growing conditions too.
  • Elderberry Johns Cuttings (qty 4) – This variety of elderberry is prized not only for its black berries, but also its beautiful green leaves in the summer and red-orange leaves in the fall! High yielding, vigorous elderberry that’s perfect for making pies and wines.
  • Elderberry Bob Gordon Cuttings (qty 2) – The Bob Gordon variety produces dark, sweet, large (1/4″) elderberries on downward-hanging heads produced by 6-8′ tall plants. This variety was discovered in Osceola, Missouri in 1999.

Sun & Temperature: Elderberries prefer a sunny location but will adapt to part shade.

Soil Requirements: Elderberries are not picky, but they prefer a slightly acidic soil rich in compost. Your optimum soil pH should be between 5.5-6.5. Ideally, they should have a loamy, sandy, well-drained site. Add some manure or compost before planting if your earth is lacking.

Planting: Dig a generous hole and mix the native soil with equal parts of well-rotted compost. Plant lower nodes 4″ to 5″ deep. Elderberries grow between 6-12 feet tall, depending on the variety, and just as wide. Place plants 6-10 feet apart.

USDA Zones: 3-10
Height At Maturity: 5-12′
Sun/Shade: Full Sun
Spacing: 6-10′
Number of cuttings: 10 bare cuttings total (6-12″ long)
