Description
This Romaine Lettuce mix is a tri-color blend of the heirloom lettuces Parris Island Cos, Red Romaine, and Freckles. Parris Island is the longtime heirloom standard for romaine lettuce. Red romaine is a gorgeous deep maroon color that will add a splash of color to any salad. Freckles is a tender, long-standing bi-color romaine. The seeds are not color coded.
Lettuce – Tricolored Romaine Mix – Lactuca sativa
Soil and Water: Lettuce likes rich, well-drained, loose soil. Keep the plants moist, not waterlogged. Frequent short watering is best.
Planting and Growing: Start seeds indoors 4 weeks before transplanting outside, or sow seed directly as soon as the soil is workable. Make successive plantings every 10-14 days for a continuous harvest. In mild climates, lettuce can be sown from spring through fall.
Harvesting and Storage: Harvest by cutting whole head at the soil line. Harvest when they are at a good size, but while they are still young and tender.
